Henry Guy Boyd was born on 5 November 1906, the son of John and Mary Boyd. He was educated at Durham School. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at Durham branch in August 1925 and was promoted to clerk in February 1926. He moved to Leeds branch in February 1929 and to Nottingham Smiths Bank branch in July 1939.

 

In February 1940 Boyd left the bank to go on war service, joining the Durham Light Infantry. Lieutenant Boyd was killed on 16 December 1940. He was 34 years old and left a widow, Kathleen, whom he had married in 1932.
