Peter Luntley Battershill was born in 1914, the son of Annie Margaret and William Harry Battershill. He worked for Coutts & Co, London. 

 

During the Second World War he left the bank to serve in the 2nd Battalion of the London Rifle Brigade. He was commissioned in November 1941, and by 1943 held the rank of Lieutenant. He served in Bangalore, Lahore, Iraq, Syria, Tripoli, Egypt, Palestine and Italy. He was serving in Italy in the 8th Punjab Regiment when he was killed in action on 18 November 1943. He was 29 years old.

 

Peter Battershill is commemorated on a bank memorial at Coutts & Co, London 440 Strand.
