Peter Gregory Brown was born on 18 June 1920, the son of Gerald Joseph and Ellen Brown. He joined the staff of District Bank as a junior at its head office in Manchester in January 1937.

 

In November 1940 Brown left the bank to go on military service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. On 31 March 1942 Pilot Officer Brown was killed in action. He was part of the crew of a Halifax bomber which was shot down over Trondheim, Norway, during an attack on the German warship Tirpitz. He was 21 years old.
