Reginald Ellis Brown was born on 24 July 1913, the son of Leonard Brown and his wife. He joined the staff of District Bank as a junior at its Eccleshall branch in May 1930. He moved to Stafford branch in 1937, to Longton branch in 1938, back to Stafford in July 1939 and to Worcester branch in November 1939.

 

In August 1940 Brown left the bank to go on military service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. On 4 April 1944 Flight Sergeant Brown was reported missing, presumed killed on air operations over North Africa. He was 30 years old and left a widow, Marie, and their two-year-old child.
