Robert Brady was born on 13 March 1920 in Whitehaven, Cumbria, the son of Robert and Annie Brady. He joined the staff of District Bank as a junior at its Lancaster branch in August 1937. He moved to Carlisle branch in October 1937 and in February 1938 he was promoted to clerk at Wigton branch. He moved to Whitehaven branch in June 1940.

 

In October 1940 Brady left the bank to go on military service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Sergeant Pilot Brady was killed in a Spitfire accident on 5 September 1941, while assigned to a training unit in Scotland. He was 21 years old.
