Ronald Henry Burr was born on 15 May 1919, the son of Robert and Kathleen Burr. He was educated at Ewell Castle School, Surrey. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at Esher branch in October 1936. He was promoted to junior clerk in January 1937 and to clerk in January 1939.

 

In June 1940 Burr left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Sergeant Burr was killed when the Wellington in which he was flying was shot down on the way home from a mission to Kiel on 21 June 1941. He was 22 years old.
