Antony Carter

Antony Arthur Carter was born on 10 February 1925, the son of Frank Reginald and Winifred May Carter. He joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank in August 1941, working at its London Lombard Street office. 

 

In June 1943 Carter left the bank to go on war service, becoming an Ordinary Seaman in the Royal Navy. He was part of the crew of HMS Boadicea, a B-class destroyer which was sunk by German aircraft off Portland Bill on 13 June 1944. Ordinary Seaman Carter, along with the large majority of the crew, was killed. He was 19 years old. 

 

Antony Carter is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest City of London office.
