Douglas Arthur Cole was born on 18 May 1923, the son of Arthur and Alice Catherine Cole. He joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank in February 1941, working at Sittingbourne branch. 

 

He later left the bank to go on war service, becoming a Flight Sergeant in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was killed during air operations over France on 15 March 1944. He was 20 years old. 

 

Douglas Cole is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Sittingbourne branch.
