John Clarkson

Bank: District Bank

Place of work: Blackburn branch

Died: 28 July 1941

John Mitchell Clarkson was born on 20 October 1916, the son of Ethel and Frederick Sutton Clarkson. He joined the staff of Manchester & County Bank at its Cleveleys branch in October 1932. In 1935 County Bank, as it was then known, was taken over by District Bank, so Clarkson became an employee of that bank. He moved to Blackpool branch in that year, to Blackburn branch in 1936, to Rushton branch in 1939 and back to Blackburn branch in April 1940.

In March 1940 Clarkson left the bank to go on military service, joining the King's Own Royal Regiment (Lancaster). On 28 July 1941 Second Lieutenant Clarkson died of wounds received in action in Gibraltar. He was 24 years old.
