John Cruickshank

John Menzies Cruickshank was born in Glasgow in 1914, the son of Alexander and Elizabeth Menzies Cruickshank. He worked for Commercial Bank of Scotland at its Glasgow Trongate branch. 

 

During the Second World War Cruickshank left the bank to go on military service. By 1943 he was a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Armoured Corps. He was drowned on active service in North Africa on 10 August 1943. He was 29 years old and left a widow, Annie Isabella, whom he had married in 1939.

 

John Cruickshank is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Gogarburn campus, Edinburgh
