Peter Chappell

Peter Anthony Chappell was born in 1920, the son of Percy Reuben Chappell and his wife Jessie. In 1937, when he was about 17 years old, he went to work at Drummonds branch of the Royal Bank of Scotland. 

 

In August 1940 Chappell left the bank to go on military service. By 1943 he was becoming a Flying Officer in the Royal Air Force. He was killed in air operations on 5 October 1943. He was 23 years old.

 

Peter Chappell is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
