Stanley Tyrrel Cousins was born in 1922, the son of Stanley and Annie Cousins. He worked for Glyn, Mills & Co.

 

During the Second World War Cousins left the bank to go on war service, joining the Fleet Air Arm of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, serving on board the aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious. On 29 January 1945 his aircraft flew into a barrage balloon cable and lost a wing during a glide bomb attack on the Soengi Gerong oil refinery, Palembang, Sumatra during Operation Meridian 2. Sub-Lieutenant Cousins was killed. He was 22 years old.
