Vera Fanny Hewett Coulton was born on 15 March 1901, the daughter of the Reverend James William Coulton and his wife Ada Elise. She joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank in May 1941, and from October 1942 was based at the bank's London Aldwych branch. 

 

At 2pm on 30 June 1944 Aldwych branch was struck and wrecked by a flying bomb. Miss Coulton was severely injured and taken to hospital, where she died the following day. She was 43 years old, and one of four members of staff killed in the incident.

 

Vera Coulton is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London Fleet Street branch.
