Douglas James Dickinson was born on 26 March 1905, the son of Marguerite Lydia and William James Dickinson. He joined the staff of London County Westminster & Parr's Bank (later known as Westminster Bank) in May 1922, and from November 1934 was based at the bank's London Bloomsbury branch. He was also a member of the bank's staff sports club.

 

In April 1942 he left the bank to go on war service, becoming a Private in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps. He died on 23 April 1942, leaving a widow, Doris.
