Harold Davies was born on 3 July 1911, the son of Thomas and Martha Davies. He attended Llangollen County School before joining the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at its Wrexham branch in October 1928. He was promoted to junior clerk in January 1929. He moved to Liverpool Victoria Street branch in November 1930 and was promoted to clerk there in January 1931. He then moved to Wood Green branch in 1935 and Connah's Quay branch in 1937. He was an enthusiastic sportsman, playing hockey, soccer, golf, tennis and cricket.

 

Outside work Davies was a territorial soldier. At the outbreak of war in September 1939 he was mobilised for full time military service and gazetted a Captain in the Royal Horse Artillery. He was posted to the Middle East, where he was killed in action on 6 February 1941. He was 29 years old.
