Robert Wilfred Densham was born on 15 May 1923, the son of Wilfred and Helen Marguerite Densham. He was educated at Allhallows School, Devon before joining the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at its Exeter Bank branch in August 1939. He was promoted to junior clerk in November 1939. He moved to Honiton branch in November 1940. His colleagues there later recalled his unassuming manner, quiet sense of humour, and musical gifts.

 

In August 1941 Densham left the bank to go on military service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Flying Officer Densham was reported missing from the Eastern Mediterranean, and later presumed to have been killed, on 4 April 1944. He was 20 years old.
