Charles Eric Evans was born on 7 May 1910, the son of Charles and Mary Evans. He joined the staff of District Bank as a junior at its Southport branch in April 1927. He was promoted to clerk at Birkdale branch in 1935 and moved to Bootle branch in November 1940.

 

In September 1941 Evans left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Navy. On 23 October 1944 his ship, HMS Limbourne, was torpedoed in the English Channel. Able Seaman Evans was one of 40 crew members lost in the attack. He was 33 years old and left a widow, Annie, whom he had married in 1941.
