Harry Elgey

Harry Elgey was born on 29 May 1859, the son of Ann and James Elgey. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank of England in May 1876 and stayed with the bank for his whole career, eventually retiring as manager of Bristol Old Bank branch in 1922. His son, Percy Thornhill Elgey, also worked for National Provincial Bank Ltd and served in the First World War. In 1930 his wife of 46 years, Alice Mary, died. The following year Elgey married his second wife, Emmeline. 

 

In March 1940 Elgey was injured when his home in Bristol was hit by enemy bombing. He was moved to a nursing home in Weston-Super-Mare, where he died of his injuries several months later, on 2 July 1941. He was 82 years old.
