Ian Edgar was born in Glasgow in 1924, the son of John and Margaret Ballantyne Edgar. He worked for National Bank of Scotland in its Glasgow Chief office.

 

During the Second World War Edgar left the bank to go on military service, and by 1945 he was a Lieutenant in the Gordon Highlanders, serving in Western Europe. He was killed in action there on 26 February 1945. He was 21 years old.
