Bank: National Provincial Bank

Place of work: Llandudno branch

Died: 17 July 1944

Kenneth Lloyd Ellis was born on 13 May 1915, the son of Mr and Mrs William Ellis. He was educated at Ruthin Grammar School and Rossall School, Fleetwood before joining the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at Machynlleth branch in March 1933. He was promoted to junior clerk in June 1933 and to clerk in July 1935. In November 1936 he moved to Llandudno branch. His colleagues there later recalled, 'one had visions of his becoming a prominent figure in our Bank as in addition to a natural charm of manner, he had undoubted ability and enthusiasm.'

In September 1939 Ellis left the bank to go on military service, serving in the Royal Welch Fusiliers. He was considered a skilled officer in his battalion and was seconded on various occasions to train troops in other regiments. Major Ellis was killed in action in France on 17 July 1944. He was 29 years old and left a widow, Margaret, and a young daughter.
