Walter Picton Evans was born on 14 March 1943, the son of Elizabeth and Evan Walter Evans. He was educated at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Carmarthen and Llandovery College before joining the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at Tenby branch in February 1931. He was promoted to junior clerk in May 1931 and to clerk in July 1933. He moved to Newport How branch in July 1935, to City Office in July 1937, and then to Cardiff Docks branch in January 1940. 

 

In July 1940 Evans left the bank to go on military service, serving with the Royal Army Medical Corps. After sustaining injuries while on active service, Corporal Evans died at Cirencester on 14 March 1943. He was 29 years old.
