Arthur Russell Ferguson was born in Glasgow in 1920. He worked for National Bank of Scotland at its Glasgow Cathcart branch. 

 

During the Second World War he left the bank to join the army, serving initially in the Royal Artillery. He later transferred to the Seaforth Highlanders, and by 1945 held the rank of Captain. He was killed in action in Germany on 9 February 1945, when he was about 25 years old.
