Geoffrey Charles Foers was born on 26 April 1916, the son of Bertha Elizabeth and Bertie George Foers. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at its Putney branch in November 1934. He was promoted to junior clerk in February 1935. He moved to Surbiton branch in April 1937 and was promoted to clerk in April 1939. His colleagues there later recalled 'his happy disposition and cheery humour, and his constant readiness to help.' Outside work he was an enthusiastic sportsman, playing both football and cricket. 

 

In August 1940 Foers left the bank to join the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He received his commission on completion of his training as a bomber pilot in August 1941. In October 1942 Flight Lieutenant Foers was reported missing over Germany. He was later presumed to have died on 2 October 1942. He was 26 years old.
