George Ferguson

George Ferguson was born on 21 June 1911. In June 1928, around the time of his 17th birthday, he went to work for the Royal Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Greenock branch. 

 

In November 1940 Ferguson left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Flying Officer in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was killed in air operations over Denmark on 22 May 1944. He was 32 years old. 

 

George Ferguson is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
