James Forrest

James Forrest was born in Dalkeith in 1919, the son of Andrew Bryson Forrest and his wife Agnes Donaldson Forrest. He worked for Commercial Bank of Scotland.

 

During the Second World War Forrest left his job at the bank's Dalkeith branch to go on military service. By 1944 he was a Captain in the Royal Scots, attached to the Punjab Regiment. He died in India on 29 May 1944. He was 24 years old.

 

James Forrest is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Gogarburn campus, Edinburgh
