Frank Guise

Frank Stuart Guise was born on 6 May 1921, the son of William Francis and Maud Eveline Mary Guise. He was educated at Stationers' Company's School, Hornsey before joining the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at London City office in November 1938. He was promoted to junior clerk in February 1939. He moved to London Moorgate branch in September 1939 and was promoted to clerk in April 1940. He was well liked by his colleagues, who later recalled 'his genuine good nature and unfailing geniality.' 

 

In August 1941 Guise left the bank to join the Royal Navy. On 4 August 1943 Able Seaman Guise was aboard the HMS Arrow in the harbour at Algiers, fighting a fire on a nearby merchant ship, when this second ship exploded. Guise suffered severe burns from the explosion, and after ten days in hospital he succumbed to his injuries on 15 August 1943. He was 22 years old.
