Ivan William George was born in 1922, the son of Berthia Smith George and Walter Lionel George. He worked for National Bank of Scotland at its Edinburgh Canonmills branch.

 

During the Second World War George left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Sergeant Pilot in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He died in an air accident on 1 October 1943. He was 21 years old.
