Thomas Brian Graves (known to his bank colleagues as Brian) was born on 24 January 1921, the son of Thomas Herbert and Agnes Graves. He joined Westminster Bank in May 1938 at its Wigan branch. He moved to Pendleton branch in January 1940. Outside work he loved reading, films and music.

 

In October 1941 Graves left the bank to join the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, becoming a member of ground crew. He was mentioned in dispatches for bravery in June 1943. 

 

Leading Aircraftman Graves was killed in an accident at his airfield in England on 9 February 1945, just ten days after his marriage to Elizabeth Marguerite. He was 24 years old. 

 

Thomas Graves is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Monton branch.
