Alec Hindle was born on 2 December 1908, the son of James and Delia Hindle. He joined the staff of District Bank as a junior at its Haslingden branch in March 1925. He moved to Accrington branch in 1928 and was promoted to clerk at Blackburn branch in 1933. He moved to Preston branch in July 1936. He moved again to Nottingham branch in 1939, where he held authority to sign documents on behalf of the manager. 

 

In March 1943 Hindle left the bank to go on military service, joining the Light Anti Aircraft Regiment of the Royal Artillery. Gunner Hindle was killed on 29 August 1943 in an accident during manoeuvres at Salisbury. He was 34 years old and left a widow, Kathleen, and a five-year-old daughter. The inscription on his gravestone reads 'Sweet memories of Alec, beloved husband of Kathleen, dear Daddy of Alizon'.
