Beatrice Himing

Bank: National Provincial Bank

Place of work: London Holborn Circus branch

Died: 28 September 1940

Beatrice Ethel Himing was born on 4 July 1896, the daughter of John and Ethel Maude Himing. She was educated at County Secondary School, Forest Hill, where she excelled at mathematics. She joined the staff of Union of London & Smiths Bank in December 1915 as a temporary clerk at its London Holborn Circus branch. In 1918 that bank amalgamated with National Provincial Bank of England, creating a much larger bank which was known from 1924 as National Provincial Bank. Unlike many of the women who were hired by banks as temporary clerks during the First World War, Himing stayed on after the return of peace, and worked for National Provincial throughout the 1920s and 1930s. She lived in Purley with her elder sister Kathleen, a civil servant.

On 28 September 1940 Beatrice Himing was killed at home as the result of enemy action. She was 44 years old.
