Charles Frank Harrison was born on 21 November 1916, the son of Laura and Ernest Locklin Harrison. He was educated at Guisborough Grammar School. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer in March 1935 at York branch. He moved to Swinton branch in October 1936 and was promoted to clerk in July 1937. In October 1937 he moved to Ripon branch. 

 

On the outbreak of war in September 1939 Harrison left the bank to go on war service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. On 5 July 1941 Leading Aircraftman Harrison was one of the RAF staff aboard HM Trawler Anselm, en route to their base in Gambia, when the troop ship was torpedoed by a German U-boat. Leading Aircraftman Harrison was one of around 250 military personnel reported missing in the aftermath, and it was later presumed that he had been killed when the ship sank. He was 24 years old.
