Dennis Porter Higgins was born on 5 June 1906, the son of Percival Henry and Florence Valentyne Higgins. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank in 1923, working at Bristol branch before moving to Tiverton branch in December 1930. 

 

In 1941 Higgins left the bank to join the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He worked in the Force's Administrative and Special Duties branch, spending much of his service in the Middle East. He was killed in a car accident in North Africa on 22 May 1943. Flying Officer Higgins was 36 years old and left a widow, Eileen, and two young sons.   

 

Dennis Higgins is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Tiverton branch.
