John Joseph O’Brien Heady was born on 16 April 1923, the son of Mary Bridget Heady. He joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank in August 1940. 

 

He later left his job at the bank's Woburn Sands branch to go on war service, becoming a Flight Sergeant in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. He was killed on 15 February 1945, as part of the crew of a Lancaster bomber shot down over Germany. He was 21 years old. 

 

John Heady is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Milton Keynes branch.
