Josephine Hart

Bank: Westminster Bank

Place of work: London Aldwych branch

Died: 30 June 1944

Josephine Mary Hart was born on 10 October 1927, the daughter of Frederick George and Margaret Christine Hart. She joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank at the end of August 1943, when she was only 15 years old. After some weeks' training at the bank's machine accountancy school she was assigned to London Aldwych branch in October, starting there the day after her 16th birthday.

At 2pm on 30 June 1944 Aldwych branch was struck and wrecked by a flying bomb, killing four members of staff. Josephine, still only 16, was the youngest of them.

Josephine Hart is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest London Fleet Street branch.
