Robert James Hill was born on 9 March 1924, the son of Rupert A Hill, a farmer, and his wife Henrietta. He had an older brother, Richard, and a younger sister, Diana. He joined the temporary wartime staff of Westminster Bank at its Wells branch in May 1940, when he was 16 years old.

 

In May 1943 Hill left the bank to go on war service, becoming a Private in the East Lancashire Regiment. He died in France on 16 August 1944. He was 20 years old. 

 

Robert Hill is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Wells branch.
