Vincent John Harvey was born on 7 February 1920. He joined the staff of Westminster Bank at its Amersham branch in May 1938. He moved to Langport branch in September 1939, but at almost exactly the same time the Second World War broke out and Harvey, as a territorial soldier, was called up for military service. 

 

He later volunteered for airborne services and trained as a glider pilot, transferring from the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment to the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Craftsman Harvey was killed in action on 21 September 1944 at Arnhem, while taking part in Operation Market Garden. He was 24 years old. 

 

Vincent Harvey is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Amersham branch.
