William Edward Halse-Hearne was born in about 1917, the son of William and Esther Halse-Hearne. In 1934 he went to work for the Royal Bank of Scotland at its Drummonds branch in London. 

 

In September 1939 Halse-Hearne left the bank to go on military service, and by 1944 he was a Lieutenant in the Wiltshire Regiment (Commando Section). He died of wounds in Burma on 11 November 1944. He was 27 years old and left a widow, Margaret, whom he had married in 1940.

 

William Halse-Hearne is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
