Peter Kennett was born on 26 May 1919, the son of Thomas and Nellie Vida Kennett. He was educated at Windsor House School and Cranbrook School; he was a member of the officer training corps at the latter. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at its London Strand branch in November 1935. He was promoted to junior clerk in February 1936. In 1938 he transferred to New Bond Street branch and was made clerk. 

 

Peter Kennett joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve in June 1939, and when war broke out three months later he left the bank to go on military service. In March 1941, Kennett sailed for Malta and RAF Ta Kali. On 11 April, Kennett took to the air in a Hurricane to defend the island from approaching enemy aircraft. Although he succeeded in shooting down one of the aircraft, Kennett was killed in the battle after his plane was shot down into the sea. He was 21 years old.
