Anthony Spencer Lomax was born in July 1920, the son of George Shipley Lomax and Mary Lomax. He was educated at Clifton College. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank at its Bristol branch in May 1938. His colleagues there remembered his ‘unfailing happy disposition’.

 

In May 1939 Lomax joined the Territorial Army, and three months later, shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War, he was called up for full time military service with his battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment. He was commissioned in June 1941. In January 1943 Lomax was posted to India, and went on to serve with airborne troops over Burma. Lieutenant Lomax died in Burma on 22 March 1944 as a result of wounds sustained on active duty. He was 23 years old.
