Cyril Albert Legg was born in Redhill, Surrey, on 22 May 1910, the son of Albert Legg, a grocery manager, and his wife Lily Agnes. 

 

In April 1929 he went to work for Westminster Bank, initially in Redhill, and from 1935 at Oxted branch. He was also a member of the bank's staff sports club.

 

Outside work Legg was a territorial soldier, and in August 1939, shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War, he was called up for active service as a Bombardier in the Royal Artillery. He died of diphtheria while a prisoner of war in Singapore on 16 September 1942. He was 32 years old and left a widow, Mary, whom he had married in 1939.

 

Cyril Legg is commemorated on a bank war memorial at NatWest Oxted branch.
