Robert Lauder

Robert George Lauder was born in 1919 and educated at Bonnington Academy and George Heriot's School, Edinburgh. He worked for National Bank of Scotland in its Edinburgh West End branch.

 

In April 1939 Lauder joined the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, and after the outbreak of war he left the bank to go on full-time war service. In April 1940 he gained his pilot's wings.

 

Flying Officer Lauder went on to serve in Britain, Egypt, Palestine, Syria and the Western Desert. He died on 15 July 1941 when his plane was shot down off the coast of Sidi Barrani in Egypt.
