William Glyn Llewellyn was born on 4 January 1909, the son of Willie Morris and Ann Llewellyn. He was educated at Tonypandy Secondary School and Cowbridge Grammar School. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at its Brecon branch in December 1925. He was promoted to junior clerk in 1926, and to clerk in 1928. Over the next few years, Llewellyn worked at the bank’s branches in Bridgend, Birmingham, Wood Green and Southgate. In 1935 he married Marguerite (Peggy). Llewellyn was a keen golfer, and was a star member of the bank’s team.

 

In 1941 Llewellyn left the bank to go on military service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve and training as an air gunner. On 15 July 1944, when returning from a raid at Revigny, Flying Officer Llewellyn’s aircraft was shot down and he was killed. He was 35 years old.
