John Hitchings Morgan was born on 26 February 1920, the son of Thomas John and Muriel May Morgan. He was educated at The College, Penarth and Cardiff Technical College. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a probationer at Cardiff Queen Street branch in April 1936. He was promoted to junior clerk in July 1936, and to clerk in 1938. 

 

In August 1940 Morgan left the bank to go on military service, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. On 23 January 1941, while undertaking pilot training at RCAF Station Moose Jaw in Saskatchewan, Canada, Leading Aircraftman Morgan was killed in a flying accident. He was 20 years old.
