John Frank Marsh was born on 15 January 1913, the son of Frank and Gladys Caroline Marsh. He started working for Westminster Bank in 1930, and in 1934 was posted to the bank's head office Income Tax Department. A colleague recalled, 'always cheerful, most likeable and very popular with all who came in contact with him, he was efficient, capable and keenly interested in the work of the department.'

 

In July 1940 Marsh left the bank to go on war service, becoming a Sergeant in the Royal Army Service Corps. On 7 July 1943 he collapsed and died after taking part in an organised sports event at his army camp. He was 30 years old.
