Stephen Michael McFadden was born on 23 October 1900, the son of Stephen and Mary Josephine McFadden. He was educated at City of Norwich School. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank as a temporary clerk at Bournemouth Westbourne branch in October 1921. He was promoted to clerk in May 1922. He moved to London City Office branch in 1925 and to Lincoln’s Inn branch in 1936. 

 

In August 1939, McFadden left the bank to go on military service. Her served with the Royal Corps of Signals, achieving the rank of Corporal. In July 1944, McFadden was discharged due to ill health. He returned to the bank as a clerk at the West Southbourne, Bournemouth branch in 1945. On 28 August 1947, McFadden succumbed to his ill health, 

 

He was 47 years old and was left a widow, Gladys, whom he had married in 1930.
