William Milne

William Milne was born on 25 July 1914. In April 1932, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for the Royal Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Meigle branch. In May 1935 he transferred to the bank's London Bishopsgate office. 

 

In July 1940 Milne left the bank to go on military service, and by 1942 he was a pilot instructor in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Pilot Officer Milne was killed in a flying accident on 7 February 1942. He was 27 years old. 

 

William Milne is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
