William Paton Morrison was born on 18 February 1920, the son of John Miller Morrison and Margaret Sim Morrison. In March 1937, when he was 17 years old, he went to work for the Royal Bank of Scotland as an apprentice at its Kelso branch. 

 

In July 1940 Morrison left the bank to go on military service, becoming a wireless operator in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Sergeant Morrison was killed in a flying accident on 16 June 1943. He was 23 years old. 

 

William Morrison is commemorated on a bank war memorial at 36 St Andrew Square, Edinburgh.
