Alexander Roderick Patience was born in 1920, the son of Christina and Robert Patience. He worked for National Bank of Scotland at its Dingwall branch. 

 

During the Second World War Patience left the bank to go on military service, becoming a Private in the Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers. He died on 23 January 1945 of an illness contracted while on war service. He was 24 years old. 

 

Alexander Patience is commemorated on a bank war memorial at Gogarburn campus, Edinburgh
