Arnold LLoyd Pollard was born on 8 May 1909, the son of Richard John Pollard, a United Methodist minister, and Eda Emily Pollard of Barry. He was educated at Barry County School for Boys. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank in June 1925 as a probationer at Leicester branch. He was appointed junior clerk at Leicester effective from January 1926 and progressed to the post of clerk at the same branch in 1928. He transferred to Manchester branch in 1932, London City office in 1935 and the Advance Department at the banks’ London head office in 1938. 

 

He left the bank to go on war service on 9 August 1941, joining the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. Pilot Officer Pollard was killed in a flying accident on 27 April 1943. He was 33 years old and left a widow, Marion Joan.
