Eric Charles Perkins was born on 5 October 1917, the son of Florence and Charles Henry Perkins of Cardiff. He was educated at Cardiff High School for Boys. He joined the staff of National Provincial Bank in January 1935 as a probationer at its Penarth branch. He was appointed junior clerk at Penarth effective from May 1935 and progressed to the post of clerk at the same branch in 1937 before transferring to Bristol Old Bank branch in 1938. He left the bank to go on war service in March 1940. 

 

Eric Charles Perkins was posted to the Royal Army Pay Corps, with which regiment he went overseas in July 1943, serving in North Africa and obtaining promotion to Staff Sergeant. While there, he fell ill with enteric fever and died on 16 October 1944. He was 27 years old and left a widow, Lilian. His obituary in the bank’s staff magazine noted, ‘he showed exceptional promise and his quiet, serious disposition rendered him very popular with the senior members of the staff. He will be missed by many.’
